  do you think some elders stay in the organization just because of prestige and getting horny at some judicial committee meetings?

  Although in the minority. there are those who see things clearly, and think they might serve as the "voice of reason" for the friends to turn to for balanced, temperate, compassionate counsel. In this, they of course run the risk of conflict with the hard-liners on the body.

  as you know, i'm embroiled in a family and internet debate/dialogue w/jws the last few days.

  and you all have been helping get great points in.

  the text that i'm about to post come from a jw apologist who has acknowledge some of my comments about jws being a cult and that no tolerance for questioning them is one of the signs of a cult.

  thousands of witnesses carried by car or mostly busses joined the great worship of the gb, oh sorry jehovah.. here is a short summary of the talk given by losch: (my thoughts in brackets).

  1) the beginning was mostly about closing branches, kingdom halls etc, but all a proof of gods spirit of course.. then some experiences, you find in a yearbook type as well,.

  2) obey the slave, even if you dont fully understand, he compared it with a child trusting their parents (quit condescending, sheeple are like dumb children, mama org will think for them).

  “My Heart was telling me that I could do more for Jehovah,” says Richard. WTF? Since when does The omnipotent Lord God Almighty actually need our help to accomplish anything? What does it say about Him that he's dependent on puny humans that He created and sustains, for anything at all? I thought we were to pray to Him for help, not the other way around!

  StandFirm, it takes a very vivid imagination to squeeze a 130 year-old American millenialist religion into the mold of First Century Christianity. Kina like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Who, for example, is their latter-day Agabus? Where are the collections for widows and orphans?

  Did anyone see "Four Weddings" on TLC 2011/05/06 - JW bride

  only caught part of this program during my tea time at work last night.. the premise: 4 brides competing with each other, and hosting the other brides at their wedding, scoring the wedding and reception.

  the prize was an all expenses paid island honeymoon.

  i didn't particularly care what was on tv, but a couple of my colleagues were watching it, but boy did i ever do a double take when one of the brides, named celeste, would not enter the church for the second and third weddings, based on her beliefs as a jehovah's witness.

  In my area, in New Jersey, JWs are increasingly opting for the ceremony to take place at the reception venue instead of the Kingdom Hall. It's one way to circumvent the intrusive, annoying need to review the details of the wedding with the elders and to grovel before them for the dubious "privilege" of being granted use of the Kingdom Hall.
